
The company has grown steadily and diversified into several divisions, including Smith Cranes, Smith Civil Engineering, Heavy Haulage and the Smith Pre-cast Concrete Division.
Since then the company has grown steadily and in 1997 located to its present premises, a 10-hectare property in Johns Rd, Harewood, Christchurch. Smith Crane & Construction also has branches in Blenheim, Nelson, Invercargill & Queenstown.
Today the company employs more than 150 staff and operates the largest fleet of mobile cranes in the South Island including 75 plant items that are hired out on a casual or contract basis for all types of construction and related works. The company operates crane hire branches in Invercargill.


The company operates one of the largest precast concrete plants in the South Island, which is well respected around Canterbury, with smaller operations in Blenheim and Invercargill.
The Civil Engineering division undertakes many major and technically involved projects including marine, bridge and piling projects.
The Heavy Haulage division undertakes all types of heavy haulage projects from house and boat removals to oil rig placements, as well as looking after all in house requirements.
