We operate a modern fleet of piling equipment, including hydraulic impact hammers and variable high-frequency vibro hammers. These allow us to work safely and precisely in sensitive environments, with real-time monitoring and automatic output adjustment to protect surrounding structures.

Specialised Equipment

Bridges & Structures

We specialise in a wide range of rail, road, and foot bridges, delivering both in-situ and precast solutions. Our experience covers concrete decks over steel beams, culverts, pipes, and timber structures, ensuring the right construction method for each project. SCC has heavy duty temporary staging available, with the ability to support cranes up to 600t.

We provide comprehensive services across all stages of project delivery, from consultation, site inspections, and assessments of existing structures, through to engineering, design, fabrication, and installation. Our integrated approach ensures safe, efficient, and reliable outcomes for even the most complex projects.

We offer a variety of repair and strengthening work, including foundation repairs, seismic strengthening, foundation repairs, crack injection repairs and structural steel repairs. We have a strong track record of working on existing structures, where our ability to apply innovative solutions allows us to overcome difficult challenges and site restrictions, including keeping rail activities live.

Civil & Concrete Structures

Smith Crane and Construction has worked on a variety of unique civil infrastructure projects, that have been bespoke design-builds and often in collaboration with our Precast and Crane Hire teams.

Examples of these projects include the award winning Rakaia Labyrinth Weir, Smith Crane and Construction worked along side Taylors Contracting to deliver this technical project. The successful precasting and on-site assembly of the weir panels significantly compressed the programme, reducing flood risk and ensuring accurate installation to match the original weir’s location and height. Despite the technical challenges of achieving precise panel shapes and angles, the project was completed under a strict timeframe and delivered well ahead of schedule.

Marine Works

Smith Crane and Construction delivers a full range of marine construction services, including piling, wharf structures, jetties, and coastal protection works. With extensive expertise and specialised equipment, we provide safe, reliable solutions for projects across New Zealand’s waterways and coastlines.

Smith Crane and Construction own and operate the Joe Mann Tug and the 32 m x 11m Vulcan flat top construction barge, capable of Carrying  an 80 Tonne Crawler crane along with a bolt together pontoon system the can be arranged in multiple configurations enabling demolition, maintenance and construction works from the water.
